Dance the night away and help John’s Place

The third annual Shamrock Ball, the chief annual benefit event for John’s Place, will be held Saturday, March 15 at the Lamar County Primary School gym. Music will be provided by the ever-popular Night Train Swing Band featuring vocalist Karin Williams. The band is well known among swing music enthusiasts and big band fans. During band intermissions, there will be trivia contests and raffles for original artwork by local artists Alan and Eleanor Stecker. Light appetizers and beverages will be served and a chocolate fountain will be available. John’s Place is an outreach ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville for memory-impaired adults. It is open Tuesday and Thursdays under the direction of Helen Sanderson to provide respite for caregivers and activities for clients. The client activities are designed to provide entertainment and stimulation to enhance memory and socialization skills. The respites help caregivers battle depression common in such situations. Dance proceeds help fund John’s Place operations and provide scholarships for needy participants. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple. Dance lessons begin at 7 p.m. followed by the dance from 8-11 p.m. For more information or to make donations to this critical ministry, call First United Methodist Church at 770-358-1494.
