Dawson Co. principal is lone finalist for LC supt. slot

The Lamar County Board of Education has named the current principal at Dawson County High School in Dawson, Georgia as the lone finalist for superintendent of Lamar County schools. The board unanimously approved Dr. Julian ‘Jute’ Wilson as the lone finalist for the job Tuesday evening at a called meeting. Prior to going to Dawson County, Dr. Wilson was principal at Cook Co. High in Adel. He had experience as a coach, athletic director and assistant principal prior to his two stints as principal. He taught in Eufala, Ala. and was once head football coach at Irwin County High in Irwinton, Ga. His first teaching job was in Panama City, Fla. He is a graduate of Samford University which he attended on a full football scholarship and has a Ph.D from Trident University. The board picked him out of 35 applicants. The position will be advertised for 14 days and the hire will be finalized May 6 at 2 p.m. Wilson is a native of Jacksonville, Fla. At Cook, he oversaw the opening of a $36 million high school. He and his wife, Sheila, have three kids. He is a Baptist deacon and teaches Sunday School. More to follow…
