Day three of Smith trial brings tighter security

Amid heightened security at the courthouse, the Ronald Smith murder trial continued for a third day with jurors listening to almost two hours of his taped statement to investigators given in the aftermath of the shooting death of Charles Graves Adams. The prosecution, which had not yet rested its case at lunchtime Wednesday, has so far tendered a total of 52 pieces of evidence. These range from photographs to shell casings to the Remington 30.06 rifle allegedly used in the shootings. During his interview with law enforcement, Smith admitted the shooting but said it was accidental. Witnesses have testified they doubt the story. There was no explanation for the increased level of security imposed at the courthouse today.
