In a bizarre, gruesome case, the decomposed body of a man in his forties was found on a backhoe at a City Pond Road home here Saturday afternoon.Deputies were dispatched after a call from acquaintances indicating they had not heard from the man for some time. They found a badly decomposed body in the seat on a backhoe.Animals had gotten to the upper torso of the body. A .22 caliber rifle was found on the backhoe with a spent shell in the chamber.The body was sent to the crime lab, according to coroner Jim Smith.The victim was tentatively identified as Peter David Field of 1252 City Pond Road. According to tax records, Field owned about 40 acres. He was working on remodeling a home there.Field reportedly worked for – or was retired from – MARTA. He had not been heard from for about two weeks.
