Deputies arrest man who planned assaults

During an ongoing narcotics investigation Jan. 21, Lamar deputies obtained information that an angry Brooks man was on his way here to kill multiple members of a family. Operating with a vehicle description, Sgt. Jeremy Haire hastily put together a takedown team and stopped the car at the intersection of Rose Ave. and Fouse St. near Walgreens. ’He got here fast; within about 20 minutes,’ Sgt. Haire said. After detecting the odor of burnt marijuana, the car was searched. Sgt. Haire and his team found three weapons, over 150 rounds of ammunition and a ‘˜jump out’ bag containing a skull mask, beanie caps and other gear. No marijuana was found. Jesse Nathaniel Cook, 21, was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit murder and possession of firearms during the commission of or attempt to commit murder. Cook remains in the Lamar County jail without bond.
