Derby Party benefit is Saturday

The Lamar Arts’ annual Derby Day Party to raise funds for the summer kids camp and art events will be held May 5 at Antebellum Oaks on Greenwood Street, owned by Dolie McCarthy. Chairman Virginia Carter says the event will run from 4-7 p.m. and established traditions will be in place. This includes traditional Derby fare, a hat contest, a silent auction and lawn games. The Kentucky Derby itself will be watched on a big screen TV. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. The goal is to raise $4,075 for Lamar Arts, topping the 2010 net receipts of $3,689 through sponsorships, ticket sales and other fundraisers. Tickets may be purchased for $25 per person at Slices, Goggans Florist, Hines Pharmacy, the Lamar Arts gallery at the Depot and the chamber of commerce. They will be $30 at the door.
