Despite bad economy, Carter’s profits soar

Kicking Barnesville and its local employees to the curb has not hurt profits at Carter’s, Inc. The Atlanta-based apparel firm reported an increase in profits of more than $8 million for the second quarter. Sales for the period grew 5.4% to $317.9 million. Carter’s, once the community’s largest employer, closed its last local facility ‘“ a distribution center ‘“ here earlier this year.
