Diamond Trojans choke at Howard

With coaches from their probable state tournament first round opponent, North Oconee, looking on, the Diamond Trojans certainly didn’t do anything to worry the Titan scouts as they committed five errors and collected only three base hits in a 6-1 loss to Howard in Macon Thursday. Lamar County closes out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a one o’clock game against Class A Aquinas at Aldora Field. The Diamond Trojans are 16-9 going into the contest while the Fighting Irish enter the game with a record of 18-6, tops in Region 4A. Gordon College opens first round play in the GJCAA tournament Saturday afternoon at the Highlander Athletic Complex. The number three seed Highlanders (34-20) host sixth seeded Young Harris (39-15) in a doubleheader set for two o’clock to begin the best of three series. The “if necessary” game would be played Sunday afternoon at Gordon as well. The Highlanders took two out of three games from the Mountain Lions at Young Harris during the regular season. Admission to the games is $5.
