Diamond Trojans eye playoffs

Senior reserve Joey Vaughn hit a game ending RBI triple in the fifth inning to invoke the mercy rule and give Lamar County a 10-0 win over Jordan in game one of a Senior Night doubleheader Tuesday at Aldora Field. The Diamond Trojans went on to take the nightcap as well, 20-1, in three innings. A nice crowd was on hand, despite unseasonably cool temperatures and blustery winds, as it was also Lamar County Recreation Night. Lamar will travel to Macon Thursday to play Howard before closing out the regular season Saturday afternoon at home against Class A Aquinas. First pitch is scheduled for one o’clock at Aldora Field. NOTE: The time of Saturday’s game has been moved up one hour due to weather concerns. The Diamond Trojans have wrapped up third place in Region 5AA with a 10-4 record (16-8) overall but could finish second if Callaway loses to Jordan Friday. If they finish third, Lamar will travel to Bogart next weekend to face North Oconee in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs. A second place finish would give the Diamond Trojans a home series against either Union County or Fannin County.
