Diamond Trojans eye region title

By Ken. K. Green The Diamond Trojans continued their quest for the Region 4-AA baseball championship with a pair of region wins last week. Lamar County is 7-1 in 4-AA and tied for the top spot with Bleckley County. The Trojans opened the week in Covington for a non-region game against AAAAAA Alcovy. Six unearned runs in the second inning propelled the Tigers to a 10-1 win. Lamar was stymied offensively facing Alcovy’s top two pitchers. The Trojans’ lone run crossed the dish in the fifth inning when Parker McBroom singled, stole second base and scored on a RBI single by Jacob Platt who had a pair of hits in the game. Ivan Banks also recorded two base hits for Lamar. Jacob Efird started on the mound and pitched well despite the outcome. He scattered seven hits and walked two over four and one-third innings. Lamar came home for a crucial region game against Crawford County and committed two first inning errors that led to four unearned runs for the Eagles. Starting pitcher Morgan Ford weathered the storm and allowed only two more runs over the next three and one-third innings to earn the win as the Trojans came back for a 10-6 victory. Eli Housley pitched in relief and was a beast on the mound, striking out six batters to finish the game. McBroom and Blake Redding had two hits each for Lamar while Banks and Josh Hugh contributed with perfectly executed bunts for base hits that aided a seven run rally in the fourth. Housley returned to the mound at Aldora Field and pitched a mercy rule complete game shutout. The Trojans blanked Taylor County 10-0. Housley struck out five and surrendered three hits in five innings for the win. Redding continued his hot hitting with three base knocks, driving home two runs. Banks reached base four times with a double, a single and two base on balls. Hugh had two hits including a two run triple. McBroom, Efird, Austin O’Pry and Austin Donley added one hit each. The Trojans, now 12-4 for the season, play three road games this week, traveling to Northeast Macon today, Monticello Friday and Milledgeville Saturday for a non-region contest with Georgia Military.
