The Diamond Trojans will travel to Hazlehurst Friday to take on Jeff Davis in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state baseball tournament. Game one of the best-of-three series will begin at four o’clock Friday with game two to follow approximately thirty minutes following the first game.Should the two teams split on Friday, the third and deciding game would be played Saturday at 1 p.m. Admission to all GHSA state playoff games is seven dollars. The winner of the series will advance to the second round to face either Screven County (Region 3 #2) or Thomasville (Region 1 #3). Lamar County (16-10, 10-6) enters the state tournament as the number four seed from Region 4AA while the Yellow Jackets are champions of Region 2 at 16-10 overall and 14-2 in region play. While the Trojans are relatively young with only three seniors on the squad and four freshmen starters, the Jackets are a senior laden squad led by college prospect Alan Browning (#25, P-3B) who sports a .321 batting average with four home runs and 19 RBI. Browning is also the ace on the mound for Jeff Davis with a 7-0 record and 1.46 ERA striking out 64 batters in 48 innings pitched.
