Diamond Trojans shut down ‘canes 11-1

The Diamond Trojans got their second win of the season in as many starts. They took down the Region 4-AA Monticello Hurricanes, 11-1, in a 5-inning game ended short due to the GHSA 10-run rule. The game had an inauspicious start for the Trojans as Brandon Thou – the Trojan’s starting and winning pitcher – watched the Hurricane’s leadoff hitter take him out of the park giving the home team a 1-0 lead. From that point forward Thou found his groove and held the ‘canes scoreless for the remainder of the game. Thou only gave up 1 earned run to Monticello on 2 hitswhile striking out 6, and allowing 3 free passes. Several Trojans stood out at the plate, offensively including Ben Cone who went 3 for 3, Keaton Brown who went 2 for 3 and Brandon Thou also going 2 for 3. Trent Nix, Marc English, Brandon Thou and Ben Cone all had doubles in the game as well. All said, the Trojans pounded out 10 hits. Defensively the Trojans committed no errors in the game. The Hurricanes were more generous committing 3 miscues to aid the Trojan’s cause. The Trojans next start will come Saturday, Feb. 27, as they travel to Region 3-AAA Washington Co. for a Varsity-JV Doubleheader. The JV Game is schedule to start at 11:00 a.m. with the Varsity following at 2:00 p.m. Lamar Co. 11-10-0 Monticello 1-2-3
