Digest drop dramatic

While still incomplete, the Lamar County board of assessors approved the 2011 tax digest, which shows an estimated drop of $46.9 million in overall taxable value. It now goes to the tax commissioner’s office where automobiles, mobile homes and timber values will be added. ’That number could go down because we had more timber taxes paid,’ said chief appraiser Jeannie Haddock. Tax commissioner ‘Andrea Anthony has those numbers.’ Also, 404 appeals of property assessments were made by landowners and a handful had not been addressed by the June 30 called meeting. In all, 359 appeals were active, meaning notices had been sent or they were set to go before the board of equalization. The appeals affected some $7.3 million of the digest, which could lead to more changes in the overall value.
