Local officials have an appointment with state authorities tomorrow to present the 2018 tax digest for approval. Once they receive the okay, tax commissioner Andrea Anthony and her staff will get in touch with the firm that prints property tax bills. The goals is to have those bills mailed out by Sept. 14. Taxes are expected to be paid in full by Nov. 15. ‘That is the due date providing we do not encounter any issues,’ Anthony said. The Lamar County commission approved the final millage rate last month and property owners will see a slight increase. The tax on a property worth $100,000 will go up by $6.44. A prolific increase in permits issued for new site built homes here is expected to push the tax digest much higher next year.
