The Lamar County Trojans lost the field position battle in the third quarter, squandered a 9-0 lead and fell 23-16 victims to the Mary Persons Bulldogs in Forsyth Friday night. The Trojans are now 1-1 against AAA competition and open region play next Friday when they play Spencer High at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Columbus.At MP, Lamar opened a 9-0 lead which it held through halftime.Placekicker Daniel Huggins was true on an 18-yard field goal a the 5:12 mark of the first period to put Lamar up 3-0.At the 9:22 mark of the second period, Trojan QB Mike Bloodser scored on a 1-yard run. The attempt for a two-point PAT failed and it was 9-0.The game turned in the third period when Lamar drove well inside the red zone but came away with no points due to miscues. Twice Lamar bottled MP up deep in their own territory but, each time, let them out.MP cut it to 9-7 as time expired in the third and went up 15-9 with just over seven minutes left in the game.Bloodser struck back, hitting Jadarious McCalla with a 50-yard touchdown strike. Daniel Huggins’ PAT put Lamar up 16-15 but the Trojan defense could not hold and MP scored and got the two-point conversion with 2:17 left in the final quarter to go up 23-16.Bloodser tried to rally the troops but his last gasp drive ended with a sack on fourth down as time ran out.
