Donations needed for Back to School Bash

It is time again for the annual Lamar County Community Wide Back to School Bash Saturday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Ed Taylor Memorial Recreation Complex on Gordon Road in Barnesville. This is the fifth year this event has been hosted. The Back to School Bash is designed and implemented as a way for local businesses, churches and other organizations to come together to give back to the entire Lamar County community. The Back to School Bash does this by partnering with each Lamar County family to prepare their children for the upcoming school year. The goal of this event is to support our local children, regardless of race, ethnicity, economic status or school age by providing each Lamar County student with a backpack and school supplies specifically prepared for his or her grade level. The Bash committee has worked tirelessly for months to plan and prepare this event for all of Lamar County’s children. This is the largest event of its kind in Lamar County and gives us the opportunity to come together for the benefit of every family living in the county. It is planned as a great day of fun, food, fellowship and community collaboration. Lamar countians can attend the Back to School Bash at no cost. All supplies, entertainment and food are provided. This year there will be giant water slides, food and vendor booths, face painting, entertainment at various times through the morning, and opportunities to take part in various activities. Bring a towel and change of clothes if preparing to enjoy the giant water slide. Donations are still being accepted for monetary donations, school supplies, food, drinks and various other items. Churches, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to sign up to take part. Each group will bring its own canopy and tables and are encouraged to provide a game, craft or share information with the families who attend. For information call April Smith, director of E.P. Roberts Center, at 770-358-3311 or Amy Banks, Lamar County school system parent resource coordinator, at 770-358-5891.
