Burial will be in Rehobeth Cemetery. Born July 27, 1953, Dorothy Dumas was raised in Gordon Ga. Guided by the parentage of the late Rev. Lewis James Sr. and the late Jossie Mae James, Dorothy graduated from the Wilkinson County school system. Dorothy received her bachelor of science in education from Albany State College. At an early age, Dorothy realized this Earth was not her home. Confessing Christ as her personal savior, Dorothy joined St. John AME Church of Gordon. Dorothy taught in the Wilkinson County school system for three years before transferring to the Lamar County school system from which she retired after 32 years. In 1996 she represented Lamar County Primary School as Teacher of the Year. Dorothy was a very loving and generous woman. Her smile has left an imprint on the hearts of many. Her dedication to others was most evident in her passion for youth development. The love seeds she’s planted will grow for years to come. She also demonstrated God’s glory in her commitment to family. Dorothy was a blessing to every life she touched. Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing but to treasure her memory the following: Her husband, Willie Frank Dumas; her son, Gregory Frank Dumas; aunt, Lois Ware of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Marie James of Gordon, Emma Jean Rhynes (Willie) of Macon, Esther James of Gordon and Helen Gregory of Vero Beach, Fla.; brothers, Lewis James Jr. (Jan) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Larry James (Kim) of Norcross, Ga.; brother-in-law, John Dumas (Peggy) of Barnesville, Ga.; niece, Tamika Hill (Jerome) of Macon, Ga.; Curtis Dumas and Dadrick Dumas of Barnesville, Ga.; great-nieces, Jozee Moton and Jaden Hill; special sisters, Hester Washington and Janet Graham; and a host of other family and friends.
