Winemakers in other parts of the world are always shocked to learn that Georgia – affectionately known as the peanut state – grows wine grapes. True, some of these grapes are the so-called ‘less noble’ varieties, such as Muscadine and French-American hybrid grapes. But you’ll also find a surprising amount of classic wine grapes, such as the popular Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Beyond that, there’s Riesling, Malbec, Touriga Nacional (a Portuguese variety), Sangiovese (which makes Chianti), Tannat, Syrah and a whole lot of Viognier. But those viticultural pioneers are primarily in north Georgia and not just up the road. So how does one in Barnesville get classic wines grown in their home state without spending precious dollars on gas and precious time on the road?Benjamin Franklin once said ‘Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance.’ Dream Affairs Catering, owned by Julie Knott, has teamed up with wine consultant John Bittner to provide a very unique experience.Having recently expanded their catering events to include custom wine tastings, the duo can offer you and your friends a casual atmosphere in which to sip wines from various Georgia growers as well as global vineyards.
