Driver enters guilty plea in fatal crash

A local man who was allegedly driving under the influence of both alcohol and drugs when his speeding truck went off Morgan Dairy Rd. in 2015 and killed 21-year-old Kara Holland entered a guilty plea in Lamar superior court April 6. Brian Thomas Thompson, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of first degree vehicular homicide before Judge Tommy Wilson. He is to be sentenced April 18. Thompson was at the wheel of a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 when he lost control, overcorrected and struck a dirt culvert at 3:35 a.m. Jan. 31, 2015. The truck overturned and Holland died at the scene. Thompson and a third passenger, Rebecca Chappel, were seriously injured. The two have since married. Holland was the daughter of Frank and Julie Holland who operate Frank’s Automotive and Towing here. Kara also operated a local business, Some Beach Tans.
