Driver sought in Piedmont Road hit and run

A man was struck by a hit and run driver at 597 Piedmont Road Wednesday night at approximately 7:50 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies are searching for the assailant who is driving a 1987-1991 Ford F-150. The vehicle is thought to be a light color with primer spots. The truck will show damage on the passenger side from the door to the taillight. It will, however, be missing the taillight as it was damaged in the wreck and left on scene. There may be some damage to the undercarriage too evidenced by the accident scene. (this is a change from the original lookout It may also have a broken windshield. The driver at fault fled toward The Rock Road, Pike and Upson counties on Piedmont Road. Persons sighting such a vehicle should call 911 immediately. The victim, identified as Shane Perry, was taking his disabled ex-father-in-law’s trash cart to the side of the road when he was struck by the hit and run driver. Perry was lifeflighted from the scene to an Atlanta trauma center. He lost consciousness twice. The victim thought he had a broken leg but was later dismissed from Atlanta Medical with no injuries. Perry had driven to the roadside in an SUV and had gotten out of the vehicle. The suspect truck ran into the ditch, corrected and then ran into the ditch again, striking the victim.
