Mrs. Elaine Lifsey Cheatham, age 92, of Barnesville passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 in the extended care facility in Sandersville following an extended illness.Mrs. Cheatham was born on Dec. 20,1920 in Barnesville, Ga. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Lester Gerdine Lifsey Sr. and the late Mrs. Bessie Britt Lifsey. She was the wife of the late Mr. Sidney F. Cheatham Sr. Mrs. Cheatham was a graduate of Gordon Military College where she met Sid and became his sponsor of Company A, of which he was captain. They were married for 72 years. She was a school teacher, an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a board member of the Council on Aging, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville and Circle Three. Elaine enjoyed gardening, bridge, dancing and her beloved family. She was a loving matriarch and established many traditions carried down through her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family.Survivors are her son, Sidney F. Cheatham Jr. and his wife Peggie of Sandersville, Ga.; a daughter, Bettilanie Cheatham Wolfe and her husband Tom of Wake Forest, N.C.; five grandchildren, Lauren Densmore, Amy Thomas, Jessica Meckes, Erin Anderson and Reid Cheatham; 13 great-grandchildren, Christian Densmore, Hayden Densmore, Grace Densmore, Taylor Meckes, Jackson Meckes, Macon Thomas, Molly Grace Thomas, Sydney Anderson, Leila Anderson, Margaret Scott Anderson, Thomas Cheatham, Walker Cheatham and John Carlisle Cheatham; and brother-in-law, Ralph Tyner Cheatham of Vero Beach, Fla.Funeral services for Mrs. Elaine Lifsey Cheatham will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville with the Rev. Dana Overton-Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville on Friday, Sept.13, 2013 from 1 p.m. until the service hour. The pallbearers will be Reid Cheatham, Paul Densmore, Ty Thomas, Scott Meckes, Scott Anderson, Britt Lifsey, Randy Long, Tim Dix and Lester Lifsey.Mrs. Cheatham will lie in state at the Williams Funeral Home of Barnesville on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2013.The family suggest that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville, 375 Thomaston St., Barnesville, Ga. 30204.Those who wish may view the memorial page and sign the guest book at williamsfh.net and mayandsmithfiineraldirectors.com.May and Smith Funeral Directors of Sandersville and Williams Funeral Home of Barnesville are in charge of arrangements.
