Enrollment increases at all schools

Lamar County schools have enrolled 2,676 students, including 739 at the primary school, 590 elementary students, 605 middle schoolers and 742 at the high school. ’All schools have seen an increase in enrollment the last few days,’ said superintendent Dr. Jute Wilson. ‘It’s encouraging to see several students enrolling from private schools, home schools, returning from out of county and requesting enrollment from out of the county. I believe the word is getting out that the Lamar County school system provides an excellent educational experience for all students.’ There were 134 Pre-K students as of Aug. 7 after the number of local preschool slots was increased. This school year’s holidays include Labor Day Sept. 1, fall break Oct. 6-10, Thanksgiving break Nov. 24-28, Christmas break Dec. 22-Jan. 4, 2015 with a half day for students Dec. 19 and MLK Day Jan. 19. Feb. 16-20 are calendar reduction days, March 16 is a professional learning day and spring break is April 20-24. The last day of school would be May 22 with an early release. Graduation is set for May 23 with post-planning May 26-28.
