Equipment theft case placed on dead docket

The case of a man accused of running a local equipment theft ring has been placed on the dead docket in Lamar superior court. Arthur Bill (Oscar) Williams, 47, allegedly operated the ring with his nephew Deontae Williams. They were arrested in June 2014 after allegedly stealing a trailer from a local farm then using it to steal zero turn mowers from homes on Old Milner Road and the Barnesville city barn. The equipment was valued at $14,000 and sold for $5500. The case languished in the system until last year when Deontae Williams entered guilty pleas and agreed to testify against his uncle at trial. Oscar Williams, who faces multiple felony theft counts, has jumped bail and his case was dead-docketed last month. Dead-docketed cases are rarely brought back to court in Lamar County.
