Though we hate to legitimize rumors via our coverage, rumors of violence at area schools Friday originating out of the Black Lives Matter movement have prompted extra security.Sheriff Brad White said he will have extra deputies at all Lamar schools Friday.School superintendent Dr. Jute Wilson sent this memo to staff and teachers today:As you may have heard, there are rumors on social media of violence planned in the Spalding/Pike/Lamar/Monroe/Upson area. At this time, we have no reason to believe these are anything other than rumors. We are in close communication with our local law enforcement. As a precaution, there is an increased presence of law enforcement on our campuses for visibility and security. The increased officer presence will be in place tomorrow at our schools and the home football game as well. Again, all measures are precautionary. We will communicate any updates if needed. In the event you have any concerns, please contact your administrator.”No school or law enforcement in the area have been able to verify any of these rumors as credible threats. Some have described Friday’s precautions as a ‘soft lockdown’.
