Fall semester starts soon at Gordon

Gordon State College resident students will begin moving into on-campus housing Monday with all students expected back on campus Wednesday, Aug. 14 for the fall 2013 semester. Of the nearly 4,000 students anticipated, approximately 900 are resident students. All students can expect some slight changes in parking this year. Student parking lots will not be designated for commuters or residents this year but will be open to all students. ”We have plenty of parking for all students,” said Gordon State College Spokesperson Tamara Boatwright. “We recommend that commuters give themselves a little more time the first week or so of classes to acclimate to driving on campus and be extra aware of other drivers and pedestrians.” The largest student parking lot, adjacent to the athletic fields, has been refreshed with a new surface coating and restriped. Parking hang tags are still required of all students with cars and students are not allowed to park in lots designated for faculty and staff. Also, Gordon and the City of Barnesville are upgrading crosswalks on College Drive, Spencer Street, Stafford Avenue, and Highlander Way to bring them more in line with the city’s revitalization project. During construction there may be some traffic delays. The project is expected to be completed in early September. ”We’re looking forward to another great year and warmly welcome all the new and returning students,” said Boatwright. “We have a wide variety of campus activities, clubs and events, our sports season opens soon with women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country, and most importantly, we have a faculty and staff dedicated to providing our students an excellent education. It’s a beautiful and exciting campus with a lot going on.”
