Fire heavily damages Holmes Street home

An afternoon fire heavily damaged a home at 127 Holmes Street Friday. The fire appeared to have started in the attic near the front of the home and was largely contained to the attic area but smoke and water damage impacted the entire house. Two dogs were rescued from the fire. The home is owned by Joe and Lori Parlier who were vacationing at the time. City and county fire units worked the blaze in sweltering heat. Firefighters took frequent breaks to hydrate. A BPD police cruiser left running in the street during the fire suffered an engine compartment fire to compound the situation.
