Early morning fires have destroyed two Lamar County homes. Both blazes broke out at about 3 a.m. A home located at 1081 Hwy. 18 West was destroyed. That home, built in 1888, was owned by Eric W. Smith, according to tax records. The second fire destroyed a home on Freeman Road. That home reportedly once belonged to the Schaeffer family but was in foreclosure.
