Five local churches are planning special events for Halloween

Bethel Baptist on Johnstonville Road will hold a Hallelujah Festival from 12 noon to 5 p.m. There will be food, fellowship and games. Barnesville First United Methodist will hold a Family Fun Fest from 5-6:30 p.m. on its lawn. There will be games, music and a cupcake walk for children with free corn dogs, popcorn and drinks. Photos will be taken of children in costume. Rock Springs will hold Hallelujah Night from 5-8 p.m. There will be games, attractions, candy and food. Admission is one canned food item per person. $1 tickets will be sold for food, drink and the cake walk. East Mt. Sinai Baptist’s Hallelujah Harvest will run from 5:30-7 p.m. Attendees are asked not to wear costumes. Barnesville Church of the Nazarene will hold Trunk or Treat from 6-9 p.m. with a chili cook off, free hot dogs and chili. In addition to the traditional Trick or Treat in Barnesville and the mammoth crowds on Thomaston Street, there are three special events going on during the weekend. The Humane Society will hold its Count Barkula dog costume contest at the Ritz Park at 2 p.m. The cost of entry is $7. Awards will be given. Dogs must be leashed and owners must clean up after them. Proof of rabies vaccination is required. The Rock Ranch will host the Not So Spooky Halloween Fest from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Butcher Hollow, the horror trail on Burnette Road, will be open Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. nightly.
