Florida woman killed at Butts County deer camp

A 46-year-old Merritt Island, Florida woman was shot and killed Saturday at a hunting camp off Nathan Thaxton Road in neighboring Butts County. Butts sheriff Gene Pope identified the victim as Sandra Jo Doersam. She was shot once in the shoulder with a 30-.06 rifle and died at Sylvan Grove Hospital in Jackson. The incident occurred at Talarosa Ranch located at 599 Nathan Thaxton Road. The victim’s boyfriend, Mark Lee Bloomquist, 46, also of Merritt Island said he was putting the loaded rifle in a gun case when it went off, striking Doersam. Pope said Bloomquist did not have the safety engaged on the loaded rifle. Bloomquist was found to be in possession of marijuana and officers learned he is a convicted felon. He was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. For more on this story, see http://www.jacksonprogress-argus.com
