Fly Old Glory proudly today

The Newnan Times-Herald What are the four most popular holidays for flying the U.S. flag? The most popular day is the Fourth of July, our Independence Day. Next is Memorial Day, followed by Flag Day and Veterans Day. Monday is Flag Day, when our nation commemorates the Stars and Stripes. We encourage Coweta County residents to bring out the red, white and blue on Monday. Proudly display our nation’s great symbol that represents freedom and our American ideals. As Flag Day approaches, we read that the sale of flags in our country is not as strong as sales were in years before the recession. That’s not surprising because the recession has put great stress on all pocketbooks. One thing we have seen in our community — and there are reports of the same across the country — more and more people are displaying smaller flags. During the recent Memorial Day holiday period, we noticed many homes displaying the small 12 inch by 18 inch flags in their yards. It doesn’t matter what size flag you use to observe Flag Day. Be it a large flag or a small flag, let’s wave the red, white and blue on Monday. And while we are displaying our great symbol of freedom, let’s remember the brave men and women in our armed forces who, on this Flag Day, are serving our country in two war zones and in other places around the globe. Isn’t it great to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave?
