Food, fun, fireworks featured on 4th

By Rachel McDaniel Celebrate America’s Independence at two upcoming patriotic events in Lamar County. Rock Springs Church will celebrate Independence Day starting at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 3 with fireworks, food, games and country music star Randy Owen. Owen is known for his role as lead singer of Alabama, a country rock band that released more than 20 gold and platinum records and sold more than 75 million records during their career. The community celebration will be held at 219 Rock Springs Road in Milner. The Marion Matthews VFW Post 6542 will offer ‘fun, food and fireworks’ to the community as well as live musical entertainment starting at 3 p.m. Monday, July 4. Live entertainment will include Lady Creech and the Main Street Band and The Dixie Pride Band. VFW and Auxiliary members will cook hamburgers and hotdogs during the event and sparklers will be provided for all children with adult supervision. The fireworks show will start at sundown. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets and make themselves comfortable for the show.
