Football on tap Friday at Trojan Field

After five days of heat acclimation practices in helmets only, the Lamar County Trojans don the pads today for three days of workouts before their first scrimmage Friday. Lamar’s old rival Manchester comes to town for a 7 p.m. preseason scrap at Trojan Field. ’We will treat the scrimmage as an opportunity to get as much padded work in as possible and play as many players as we possibly can. There will be no live kicking game and the younger players will play the fourth quarter,’ first year Trojan head coach John Flath reported. The Trojans are coming off a 6-5 season in 2016 that ended with a disheartening 44-14 loss to Chattooga in the first round of the playoffs in then head coach Bryan Love’s only season at the LC helm. The Blue Devils went 10-2 last season having been eliminated in round two of the postseason by Macon County 28-14.
