Police found the body of a recent graduate of Henry County’s Ola High School in her California apartment on Tuesday and her new husband was charged with the slaying.The body of Kalyn Denise O’Barr-Poteat, 19, was reportedly discovered in her San Diego apartment by police. Her husband, U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Patrick Poteat, 21, is being charged with murder, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. His arraignment was scheduled for today in San Diego County Superior Court. He is being held without bail.Police found O’Barr-Poteat’s body during a check on the apartment after Patrick Poteat called a friend and asked the friend to call 911, according to Lt. Kevin Rooney of the San Diego Police Department.Family members said the couple married in November.O’Barr-Poteat graduated from Ola High in Ola, GA (just outside of McDonough, GA) in 2008, the school’s first graduating class.She was a founding member of the Ola women’s soccer and cross-country teams and was captain of the soccer team.O’Barr-Poteat worked as a stripper in Atlanta after graduation. She moved to San Diego about four months ago and worked as a nude dancer at Goldfingers Gentlemen’s Club near the base where her husband was stationed.Said Lonnie Wheeler, O’Barr-Poteat’s former soccer coach, ‘She was Ola’s leading scorer for the first two years, and she even scored the first goal ever for Ola [as a forward].’Wheeler said O’Barr-Poteat also played soccer while at Gordon College in Barnesville, after high school. ‘She was so full of energy,’ he said. ‘In athletics, they talk about players having motors. She had a motor that was running all the time. She was an excellent leader, and was loved by everyone.’ More than 200 people attended a candlelight vigil for O’Barr-Poteat in McDonough last night.
