Former Monticello mayor will run for Cole’s seat

Former Monticello mayor Susan Dykes Holmes has announced her candidacy for the District 125 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives now held by Jim Cole. Cole is expected to be appointed Secretary of State by Gov. Sonny Perdue on Monday. The special election to fill Cole’s slot will be held Feb. 9, 2010. Mayor Holmes is also a former state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency. She was Monticello mayor for 12 years and was credited with revitalizing the city’s downtown area.
