Former Lamar County tax commissioner Amanda Gamez died Saturday, May 17 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Gamez took office Jan. 1 after running unopposed for the tax commissioner post last November.
She stepped down due to her deteriorating health in April. Lesley Kilchriss is now serving as interim tax commissioner.
Funeral services will be held May 21 at Westwood Gardens. Haisten-McCullough Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
