Forsyth bank robbers busted

Two men have been arrested in connection with the robbery of the Bank of America location in Forsyth Tuesday morning. Coverage from Will Davis, publisher of the http://mymcr.net, follows: Sheriff’s deputies have captured the man they say robbed the Bank of America in Forsyth on Tuesday morning at around 9:30 a.m. Lashawn Grier, 20, was caught by a sheriff’s deputy at 75 Lover’s Lane, just a few blocks from the bank he’s accused of robbing. He’s being interrogated at the Monroe County Jail at this hour. Sgt. David Asbell of the Forsyth Police Department said the suspect passed a note to the teller at Bank of America on Lee Street and stole away on foot. Forsyth police officers and Monroe County sheriff’s deputies rushed to the scene. ”He (the suspect) had a bad day,” said Asbell. Asked why he was captured so easily, Asbell responded: “He did it in Forsyth.” Capt. Tom Benson of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said he thinks deputies also recovered the bag of cash Grier had stolen. This is the Monroe sheriff’s office release from Allison Selman-Willis, public information officer: Two subjects are being detained after a bank robbery at Bank of America in Forsyth this morning, January 4, 2011 around 10 a.m. According to witnesses, a male subject entered the bank and presented bank employees with a note demanding money. An undisclosed amount of cash was given to the man who fled on foot from the bank’s location on South Lee Street. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with City of Forsyth Police apprehended the suspected robber and another suspect within minutes of the robbery at the intersection of Lover’s Lane and Hunter Street not far from the Bank of America. The bank’s money was recovered. Two suspects are being questioned and are being detained at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Jail. Names are not yet being released pending an investigation into the robbery. This case is being investigated in a joint effort between the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Forsyth Police Department.
