Mrs. Frances Olena Preston Chapman Hendrix, age 87 of Griffin, former long-time resident of Barnesville, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.Mrs. Hendrix was born Sept. 21, 1925, daughter of the late Ernest L. Preston Sr. and the late Cora McCart Preston. She was a member of the Griffin First United Methodist Church, Young at Heart and was currently attending Faith United Methodist Church in Riverdale where she was very supportive of her son’s ministry. Mrs. Hendrix retired from the William Carter Company after 35 years of service. She was a very loving person living her life with grace and dignity and was loved by everyone who knew her. She never met a stranger. Mrs. Hendrix’s home was always open and full of hospitality. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her son, Tony Chapman; and granddaughter, Tina Chapman.Survivors include her children and their spouses, Sandra Davis, Brenda and Ernie Sutton, Tim and Frances Chapman, Sid Chapman and David Chapman; grandchildren, Steve and Julie Davis, Todd and Jennifer Davis, Chris Sutton, Shawn Sutton, Andrea and Brian Marks, Hollie Chapman and Keith Ballard, Brian and Jennifer Chapman, Amanda Chapman and Brian and Tomi Mangram; 10 great-grandchildren and her special black lab, Abby.Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Dr. Richard Lumpkin, Rev. Kevin Lobello, Rev. Joseph Casteel and Rev. Sid Chapman will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville.
