Frances Wilson Ruffin

Mrs. Frances Wilson Ruffin, 84, of Barnesville, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Ruffin was born in 1929 in Bonaire, Ga., to the late Lois and Lane Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bobby Ruffin. Mrs. Ruffin joined Antioch Baptist Church in 1947 and was a devoted member throughout her lifetime. She worked in the textile industry for many years and took great pride in making baby garments. Mrs. Ruffin and her late husband were farmers and gardeners. Each year they planted a large field of sunflowers and zinnias for the community to enjoy. She also had a passion for cooking and was famous among her family and friends for her caramel cakes and pecan pies. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ruffin and Jeanie Travis; her son-in-law, Andy Travis, whom she loved as a son; and her adored granddaughter Addie Travis. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Barlow of Barnesville and Margaret Denney of Ellijay; brother Wade (Mabel) Wilson of Barnesville; sisters-in-law Dot (Fred) Mulling of Yatesville, Martha Rodgers of Zebulon and Pat Wilson of Raleigh, N.C.; and brothers-in-law Ed Evans of Barnesville, Johnny Ruffin of Yatesville and Freeman Alsobrooks of Peachtree City. Many beloved nieces and nephews also will miss her greatly. Funeral services for Mrs. Ruffin will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Yatesville. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, 2269 Barnesville-Yatesville Rd., Yatesville, Ga., 31097.
