Freedom Fest Saturday at VFW

Marion Matthews Post 6542 VFW will host Freedom Fest 2021 on Saturday, Oct. 9 with entertainment starting at 4 p.m. and including music, festival foods, an outdoor concert featuring Dixie Pride Band, an auction, games including corn hole and darts and fireworks at dark. All proceeds from the event will go to help local veterans in need.

“This is our first Freedom Fest. Last year when COVID hit and a lot of people were struggling, Buggy Days got cancelled so we held an event to help. This year we didn’t want to hurt or take away from Buggy Days so we decided to do something in October. We just wanted to help people out and have some fun. It’s going to be a great night,” said Post Commander Richard Wright. “All proceeds will go to help our local veterans in need and allow us to continue our mission of serving our veterans in the community and their families.”

The auction will be held from 4:40 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with musical entertainment throughout the day and the Georgia/Auburn game being televised inside the VFW. A guitar autographed by country singer Blake Shelton, beverage memorabilia and a wood carving by 1972 world champion carver Bob Shaver are just some of the items to be auctioned.

The Dixie Pride Band will perform an outdoor concert and take the stage at 7 p.m.

Food items will include barbecue, hot dogs, chili and other festival foods with fireworks at dark.

“Come out and help us make this a great event,” said Wright.
