As the Independence Day holiday approaches, freedom and fireworks move to the forefront of the holiday agenda whether you are at the lake, beach or celebrating around the pool or grill in your own backyard. The largest celebration in Lamar by far will be held at Rock Springs Church on Sunday, July 5 from 5-10 p.m. The Independence Day Family Picnic is a fundraiser for Rock Springs Clinic. A free will collection will be taken for the clinic which generously serves area residents without insurance with free, quality medical care. Jep and Jessica Robinson of ‘˜Duck Dynasty’ fame will speak and the legendary Charlie Daniels Band will perform. There will be multiple, large inflatables for kids and food trucks featuring dishes from local area chefs. The fireworks will begin at dark. The church is located at 219 Rock Springs Road in northern Lamar County. Our neighbors in Monroe County also have fireworks on the schedule for Friday night at the recreation department on Dan Pitts Drive. Vendors and activities open at 5:30 p.m. The fireworks show is set for 9:30 p.m.
