French Edwin Meek Jr.

French Edwin Meek Jr., 83, of Panama City, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2012, in Panama City, Fla. A native of Coshocton, Ohio, he was the son of the late French E. Meek Sr., and Opal Senter Meek. He was retired from the state of Ohio and the state of Georgia as a correctional officer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He then retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Lancaster Masonic Body, Scottish Rite of Macon, Ga., and Shaddai Shrine Temple of Panama City, Fla., and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Doris Heaton Meek; his son, Heinz E. Meek; his stepson, Greg (Sophie) Blosser; his stepdaughter, Pamela (Mark) Williams; and grandchildren Michelle Blosser, Kevin Blosser, Kyle Williams and Katy Williams. Also surviving are sisters Eva Watkins and Wilma Meek; brother, Alvin (Joann) Meek; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Meek; sisters, Alice Dobson, Ethel Chase and Mildred Parks; and a brother, George Meek, all of Coshocton, Ohio. A graveside service was held in South Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at 11:30 a.m., with the Coshocton Co. Veterans Council conducting military rites. The family received friends at Given Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Shrine or to the local VFW.
