Funding for baseball, softball and T-ball slashed

Recreation funding for baseball, softball and T-ball has been cut from the pending 2012 county budget. Funding for these programs will go into the hands of autonomous coaches’ associations, based on the way Pike County runs its parks and recreation authority. As a result, registration fees will soar as parents bear the entire cost of these programs. After a last trip to take the 9/10 All-Stars to the state finals, the department’s vans will also be shut down. They may be declared surplus or used by other departments but the recreation department will no longer fund travel to away games.
