Fury U14 girls atop division standings

The U14 Fury FC, comprised of soccer players from Pike, Lamar, Spalding and Upson counties, won one match and tied another over the weekend and are tied with two other teams atop the standings in their Georgia Soccer division. On Saturday, the Fury traveled to John’s Creek to do battle with the Atlanta Fire United Gold squad and came away with a 3-0 win. Emily Ogletree, Livia Lanier Geiger and Shelbie Bohensky had one goal apiece to pace the Fury. Bohensky had two assists and Paige Wood had one assist. Keeper Brooke Shavers shut out the Fire, recording three saves in the net behind a strong Fury defense. On Sunday, the Fury were on the road again this time in Canton for a match with the CSA Impact Gold girls. The match, which featured two of the division’s top defenses, ended in a 0-0 tie. Shavers had five saves in goal to preserve the tie. Due to inclement weather, the weekend’s action was the Fury’s first since the season opener March 1 when they shut out SSA Chelsea White Select 2-0. Geiger had two goals in that game while Bohensky had an assist and Shavers pitched another perfect game in the net. In the preseason, the Fury participated in the Gwinnett Grizzlies’ college showcase at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville. The Fury are: defenders, McKinley Bradley, Bean Butler, Bailie Garland and Whitney Hancock; midfielders, Paige Wood, Emily Ogletree and Hailey Hadsell; forwards, Shelbie Bohensky, Meg Franklin, Alyssa Holmes and Livia Lanier Geiger; and keeper Brooke Shavers. This weekend, the Fury host Georgia FC Elite Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Pike Soccer Complex. On Sunday, they travel to Rockdale County to face the RYSA Revolution Gold at 2:30 p.m.
