Ga. Trust to bring historic expedition here June 11

By Kay S. Pedrotti Locals are getting ready to roll out the red carpet for the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s Expedition ‘˜Buggy Through Barnesville’ on Saturday, June 11. The Expedition will showcase the rich history and architecture of Barnesville as guests explore some of the most historic homes and properties here. Chairing the event is Pat Edwards, a Georgia Trust emeritus trustee and former board chair. ‘Barnesville is such a friendly town; we want to make these first-time visitors really feel welcome. The Expedition is such a boon to our city and we think a lot of good things will come in the future as a result of the visit,’ she said while thanking members of the local team. The day starts with an orientation in the Lamar County Fine Arts Center, ‘a chance to show off this fine building and see how great our schools are,’ she said. Along with the Depot, Old Jail Museum, Antiques on Atlanta (the old B. Lloyds building) and Greenwood Cemetery, details are being finalized to announce the 10 or so homes to be featured on the Expedition. ’It’s a very full day, Edwards noted, ‘and we hope to be able to show as many places as possible.’ ’This is our time to roll out the red carpet, Barnesville. What an opportunity to revive local interest in preserving our downtown and as many other historic places as possible,’ she said. The Georgia Trust Barnesville Expedition is $50 for Georgia Trust members and $60 for nonmembers. It includes a lunch voucher from restaurants in the historic district and the closing reception. Tour-only tickets are also available for $25. For more information or to register, visit or call 404-885-7812. Proceeds from the Expedition will go to support the many preservation and educational programs of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. A Georgia Trust Expedition invites members and guests to explore a Georgia town located off the beaten path. These day-long, self guided tours are designed to reflect a town’s unique history and development by including a variety of historic sites.
