GBI document identifies Pike deputy in fatal shooting

A single document, a ‘˜face sheet’ acquired from the GBI after an open records request by The Herald Gazette, reveals the identity of the Pike deputy involved in a fatal shooting April 4. Two deputies got into a confrontation with 70-year-old Grady Parks outside a home at 3102 Roberts Quarters Road near Molena. Parks was armed with a shotgun and a handgun which he refused to drop upon command. An attempt to subdue him with a taser was unsuccessful. At some point, Parks fired at deputies. Dep. Kaleb Lynch returned fire, striking Parks twice. Parks later died at an area hospital. The GBI’s preliminary investigation indicated Lynch acted appropriately. The full investigation is ongoing. The case is being worked out of the Region 2 GBI office in Midland near Columbus. The case agent is Jeff Hatchett, The supervisory agent is Fred Wimberly. Though requested, no information was released regarding autopsy results on Parks. According to tax records, the property at 3102 Roberts Quarters Rd. is owned by Terrell Willis.
