GBI probing case of police dog found shot to death

Griffin police officer Chad Moxon, a Lamar County resident, has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who kidnapped and killed his partner Jimi. Jimi was a well trained K-9 officer with the Griffin PD. ********************** UPDATE: $5000 added to reward…. There has been an addition reward offered by The Atlanta Humane Society of $5,000.00 for any valid tip leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Griffin Police Department K-9 ‘Jimi’. This is funded by the Holland M. Ware Charitable Fund. *********************** Moxon said Jimi and his other dog, who were kept in a kennel at his home, went missing Monday while he was at the Griffin firing range. ”There were tire tracks leading to and from the kennel,” said Moxon. “We searched for them all day Tuesday and part of Wednesday.” That search, which included uniformed Griffin officers in patrol cars, may have frightened the dognappers because, early Wednesday afternoon, Jimi was found on the side of Rock Quarry Road near Yatesville. ”He was shot dead and dumped like a piece of trash,” said Moxon. The other dog, badly beaten and starved, showed up about 45 minutes after Jimi was found. He was taken to Dr. Mark Korb for treatment and is expected to survive. The Lamar County sheriff’s office is investigating the crime after the GBI crime lab extracted evidence including double ought buckshot from Jimi’s body. A reward is offered for the person or persons responsible for killing Jimi. A reward fund has been established at United Bank and donations may be made at any branch. If you have any information that may help solve this senseless killing, call the LCSO at 770.358.5159.
