GC alumni coming back to campus next week

Alumni from all over the United States are expected for Gordon’s 2012 Alumni Weekend April 20-22. ’We’ll have about 250 alumni and guests for the weekend,’ said Natalie Rischbieter, alumni affairs coordinator. ‘We have a schedule full of activities, plus plenty of time built in so alumni can catch up with old friends and even make some new ones.’ The weekend kicks off Friday at 1 p.m. with the rededication of Smith Hall. The building, a fixture on the Gordon College campus since 1939, was recently renovated to house the education program. Tours of the ‘new’ building will be available after a short ribbon cutting ceremony. At 2 p.m. the Faculty and Staff Reception gets under way. Faculty promotions will be announced while former faculty and staff will have the opportunity to mingle with alumni and current faculty and staff. Registration opens Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Alumni House on Stafford Avenue. During the day there will be campus tours, a class luncheon, Highlanders baseball and softball games, a production by the Gordon College Theatre, and one of the most popular of the day’s events ‘“ Gordon Football Roundup. Held at the Women’s Clubhouse, next door to the Alumni House, the football roundup allows alumni a chance to view memorabilia and archived films of Gordon football games. The fun ramps up Saturday evening with the Alumni Barbeque in the Alumni House courtyard with music by ‘The Junkshun.’ On Sunday, the weekend closes with a farewell breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Student Center Atrium but the Alumni House will remain open throughout the day for more reminiscing and goodbyes. ’It is such an honor for us to host our alumni during the weekend,’ said Rischbieter. ‘We enjoy helping people reconnect with Gordon and with each other.’
