On October 16, Griffin Choral Arts will present ‘The World Beloved””a concert of choral and bluegrass-instrument music celebrating the blessings of Creation.Known for its bold, inventive programming, Griffin Choral Arts will have as its invited guests the nationally-acclaimed bluegrass band Monroe Crossing (named in honor of Bill Monroe). Each group will perform by itself but will join forces for the centerpiece of the concert: ‘The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass.’ This ‘down to earth’ work has taken the choral world by storm from its inception in 2007 as a commission to Monroe Crossing, poet Marisha Chamberlain, and composer Carol Barnett. Chamberlain’s moving lyrics and Barnett’s excellent choral writing ‘cross over’ the stereotypical boundaries between ‘bluegrass’ and ‘classical,’ while honoring both traditions with the kind of artistry that has taken the work three times to Carnegie Hall, as well as to dozens of other churches and concert halls across the country. The concert will take place at the First United Methodist Church in Griffin (1401 Maple Drive), starting at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door, as well as in advance in Griffin at Artistic Flowers and Gifts and Safehouse Coffee Roasters, in Barnesville at Goggans Florist, in Zebulon at A Novel Experience bookstore, and in Thomaston at the TUAC Gallery.
