GEMC CEO to speak at Gordon

Paul Wood, president and CEO of Georgia Electric Membership Corporation, will speak at Gordon State College Thursday, April 10. Wood will discuss President Franklin Roosevelt and his role in bringing rural electrification to Georgia. In August 1938, thousands of people gathered in what was then the stadium for Gordon Military College to hear FDR dedicate the Lamar Electric Cooperative. The LEC was a project of the Rural Electrification Administration, part of Roosevelt’s New Deal. In October 2009, a marker commemorating the event was dedicated at the corner of Summers Field and College Drive, adjacent to the Gordon State College Campus. Woods presentation will be held on the stage of the Student Center auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. The public is invited. Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Nursing and Allied Health Sciences Building on Spencer Street.
