George Alberton Hayes, age 75 of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at his residence.
George was born in Griffin, Georgia on October 23, 1947. His parents, Paul and Mary Ellen Vaughn Hayes, sister, Elaine Hayes and beloved wife, Else Padberg Hayes, preceded him in death. George was a proud military veteran having joined the Army at the age of 17 and serving in the Aviation Combat Battalion in Vietnam. He was awarded several medals for his service including the honorable Purple Heart. George was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. George was proud of his subsequent law enforcement career having retired after 31 years as a member of the Griffin Police Department retiring as a lieutenant. He was a proud patriot and spoke out concerning his views about America and its values. He was also a Christian who today is spending eternity with his Lord Jesus and beloved wife, Else.
Survivors include his children, John Hayes, Mike Donaldson, Linda Nance, James Padberg; grandchildren, Gunner Hayes, Gaven Hayes, Christopher Rivers, Devin Williard; brothers, Lynn Hayes, Ken Hayes, Mark Hayes; sister, Diane Hayes Dale; several aunts, uncles and cousins-all of whom he loved dearly.
A visitation was held Monday, February 6, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend George Dale will officiate; interment will follow in Oak Hill cemetery with military honors.
